Traffic Control & Road Access
Neosho, MO

Background
Gateway Drive T-intersected into MO Highway 86 with a stop sign. Several factors warranted the installation of a signalized intersection:
- Increased traffic and crash data near Highway 86, Gateway Drive, and Interstate 49.
- The site distance to the west was difficult to negotiate for Gateway Drive traffic to enter the intersection safely
- The development to the south was difficult to access. The new traffic signal was designed with a South leg to improve safety and future accessibility.

Activity
Allgeier Martin worked with the City of Neosho and MoDOT to design a new, fully-actuated, signalized intersection. The intersection consisted of dedicated left turn lanes, traffic islands, widening, new South approach, pavement marking modification, intersection lighting, radar detection, pan-tilt-zoom camera and internet connectivity to allow MoDOT to control and monitor the intersection remotely. The new roadway and geometric alignment will work in with a new roundabout to manage traffic in and out of several travel plazas located to the West and allow for additional development.
