Background

Activity

Allgeier Martin provided design engineering and construction inspection for this historically significant bridge. To reach an agreement with the Missouri State Historic Preservation Society, our engineers carefully documented the bridge. We incorporated the agreed upon aesthetics into the design. Our team designed the replacement bridge to resemble the original. Foresight during the design phase allowed us to anticipate the probability of deeper footings. We included extra quantities in the bid schedule for excavation, rock excavation, and foundation test holes. Each of the additional quantities listed were later deducted from the project. Until we knew exact footing depths, we could not add quantities for substructure concrete and steel reinforcement.

The bridge replacement was recognized by the Joplin Trails Coalition and Jasper County for its aesthetic details, original to the era and Route 66.
