Public Water Supply

Lamar, MO

Public Water Supply

Background

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) issued an Agreement on Consent (AOC) to the City of Lamar. The drinking water system did not meet disinfection byproducts through the years. Among many sampling and reporting requirements, the AOC directed the City to change from a surface water supply to a ground water supply. The ground water supply would need to be able to provide 100% of the City’s water demands for the foreseeable future.

Public Water Supply

Activity

The City engaged Allgeier, Martin and Associates (AMA) to design, bid, and administer the construction of a public water supply well, well house, and site piping. AMA designed the proposed public water supply well with enough capacity to meet the City’s average water demands within a pumping period of 10 hours. This allows for a daily well recharge period of 14 hours. The 700 GPM well was drilled to a total depth of 1,300’. A 12” diameter steel casing pipe was installed to a depth of 640’ and the submersible well pump was set at a depth of 550’. The project also included the design of a well house, complete with a future chlorine storage room. The design included a new 10” diameter ductile iron water line to bring water to the water treatment facility. Although not included in the original design, the installation of a standby emergency generator was added to the project during construction.
